Aero-Aoustic Wind Tunnels (AAWT)
Aero-acoustic wind tunnels (AAWT) are state-of-the-art. In order to perform an aero- acoustic measurement on a test specimen, flow noise has to be minimized in wind tunnels. This demands efficient silencers over the entire frequency range. If these silencers are made in such a way as to require only a minimum of space in the aero-acoustic wind tunnels (AAWT), the resulting top speed is only reduced by a fraction. To this end, BCA Modules are used as splitter silencers and as tunnel wall linings in the aero-acoustic wind tunnels (AAWT). Turning vanes coated with foam are employed in the corners of the aero-acoustic wind tunnels (AAWT) for minimal pressure loss and additional mid and high frequency sound attenuation. The newest absorbers developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer IBP have been successfully used in four large aero-acoustic wind tunnels (AAWT) and more than 70 acoustic measurement rooms.
Aero-Acoustic Wind Tunnels (AAWT) Using Broadband Compact Absorbers BCA are Slim and Efficient
FAIST’s aero-acoustic wind tunnels are equipped with the well established broadband compact absorbers (BCA) or asymmetrically structured absorbers (ASA). The technology of these reactive absorber systems was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institut fuer Bauphysik (IBP). Because of this close relationship, the broadband compact absorber (BCA) is scientifically guaranteed for all applications.
Our concept of using BCA-technology, together with a carefully chosen fan has resulted in FAIST building the quietest aero-acoustic wind tunnel in the world.
