Noise Control for Printing Plants
FAIST offers numerous noise control options for optimizing the workplace of printing plants, such as in the offset printing, newspaper printing and photogravure printing areas.
To quote Mr. Wilhelm Braun, Managing Director of FAIST: “We have recognized these important economic factors and have incorporated them into the development of our systems.”
Commercial Printing – High Performance -Low Noise
The high speeds required for commercial printing result in excellent production performance of the printing plant, but simultaneously lead to a considerably heavier noise load for the employees operating the machine and therefore, make noise control indispensable.
The regulated noise laws for the printing industry according to VBG 121 allow for a maximum sound level of 83 dB(A) in the workplace.
Although it has been proven that sound levels of maximum 83 dB(A) do not cause hearing problems, many printing plants have decided to reduce the level of noise to 70 dB(A). This will be the standard in the future also for commercial printing.
The comfort level of the employees and their consequential performance is something which FAIST has recognized and used as a goal in planning noise control systems and noise control systems for printing plants. FAIST Anlagenbau’s innovative concepts for noise control systems and noise control systems for printing plants have forged a new path and will continue to do so in order to provide employees with an optimal working environment in the printing industry and paper industry.

Noise Control – Photogravure Printing – Even a Giant Can Whisper
Noise control concepts are an important consideration for photogravure printing plants and special attention must be paid to the enclosure of noise-intensive folders, whereas relatively lower noise control measures can be implemented in the print unit area.
Today, additional control stations are usually set up in the photogravure printing area, to achieve noise levels of less than 70 dB(A) at the control desk, thereby achieving lower noise control levels in the printing plants than legally regulated.
Continuous development in the area of noise control and the successful implementation of our innovative systems has made us the worldwide leading manufacturer of noise control concepts in the printing industry and the paper industry. Our flexible standard building systems for noise control allow us to provide our satisfied customers with individual specifications for noise control, easy viewing, ventilation, lighting and color.
Newspaper Printing –The Quiet Room – The Perfect Solution
We have developed a highly successful noise control concept in the newspaper printing industry by using individually soundproofed enclosures for the control desks.
Noise levels of below 70 dB(A) have always been considered state-of-the-art, as well as being legally required. But FAIST has set a new milestone with our noise control systems in the newspaper printing industry: with noise levels below 60 dB(A) in the immediate proximity to folders and four high towers (approx. 220 dB(A)) we have attained conditions that exceed those even in many offices.
A highly absorbent acoustic wall cladding reduces noise levels in the printing area by 6 to 10 dB(A) and thereby improves not only the acoustic environment, but lessens the noise at the work stations and to the outside.
